Petition on Affordable Housing Print E-mail

Click here to download a copy of the Affordable Housing petition to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.

The petition states:

We, the undersigned residents of Alberta, petition the Legislative Assembly to
1. Pass legislation that will implement the Rent Stability Guideline recommended by  the report of the Affordable Housing Task Force of 2007, to be in place for two years and keep rent increases to not more than the rate of the Consumer Price Index plus two percent, unless a building with major renovations is involved; and
2. Urge the Government to develop a comprehensive integrated provincial housing security plan with immediate and longer-term goals related to all aspects of the housing continuum from ending homelessness to home ownership; and
3. Amend the Municipal Government Act to clearly permit municipal governments to enact inclusionary zoning policies; and
4. Urge the Government to increase funding for social housing, to be dedicated to capital construction, operating costs, and human services supports, by not less than an additional $500 million per year over the expenditures in this area during the 2007/2008 fiscal year, for at least ten years.
