A report on child poverty in Alberta says many poor kids live in families where their parents are working.
The Edmonton Social Planning Council study says more than 24,000 of the 75,500 Alberta children living in poverty have one or two parents working full-time.
Bill Moore-Kilgannon of Public Interest Alberta says that every year there's news that the average salary is going up in Alberta, but he says that's deceptive. From 1994 to 2006, the poorest families' income increased by less than $5,000, while the richest went up $107,000.
The report's author, John Kolkman, said until recently Alberta had the lowest minimum wage.
The study defines the poverty line as being below Statistics Canada's Low Income Cut-off. (The Canadian Press, Grande Prairie Herald-Tribune, ccg)
