Go Vote: Edmonton Municipal Elections Oct. 18 |

Various longitudinal studies have shown that voter turnouts in elections throughout Canada and other western industrialized countries have steadily decreased over the past 30 years.
If such trends continue, this would undermine the legitimacy of representative democracy, which assumes that the electorate knowingly and willingly elects their governing officials. Moreover, a vibrant democracy not only needs an accountable and responsive government but also an informed and engaged citizenry. Informed voting is foundational in building a strong democracy.
