53,000 kids living in poverty: New report
November 25, 2010
A new report suggests 53,000 Alberta children are living below the poverty line.
The Edmonton Social Planning Council and Public Interest Alberta released a report stating these children lived below the Statistics Canada low-income cut-off in 2008.
The report states the number could be higher today because of the effects of the recession.
It is just plain wrong that in one of the wealthiest parts of the world we have so many children that are struggling in poverty, said Bill Moore-Kilgannon, the executive director of Public Interest Alberta.
