Youth Internship
Lead: Jennifer Hoyer
The ESPC Youth Internship facilitates the work of creative young activists in the community. Interns develop a project proposal, workplan, learning outcomes, and project outcomes in partnership with ESPC staff, and benefit from mentorship and other in-kind resources to put their ideas into action.

Tracking the Trends 2009

The ESPC updated its flagship publication, Tracking the Trends, in 2009. The publication includes a variety of historical and current data on demographic and socioeconomic trends in the Edmonton area.

Wood Buffalo Regional Municipality Social Plan
Lead: Susan Morrissey
The ESPC is working in partnership with the Social Planning and Research Council of BC (SPARC BC), Applications Management Consulting (Edmonton) and David Thompson Consulting (Edmonton), to produce a social plan for the Wood Buffalo Regional Municipality.

Alberta Child Poverty Report Card
Lead: John Kolkman
The ESPC produced an updated child poverty report in partnership with Public Interest Alberta, and with support from Campaign 2000. The report, titled We Can Do Better, was released on November 21, 2008. A follow up to this report, We Must Do Better, was released in November 2009.
Funding for the report was provided by the Muttart Foundation.
The ESPC and PIA visited five Alberta cities (Red Deer, Ft. McMurray, Grande Prairie, Lethbridge, and Medicine Hat) this Spring to help build public support for Alberta to adopt a comprehensive poverty reduction strategy. This will be followed up by public forums in Calgary and Edmonton this October. Visit PIA's website for more information & to register.

Research Needs - Community Consultations
Lead: Erin Krekoski, Jennifer Hoyer
The ESPC hosted consultations with a number of community partners to help us align our social research agenda with the needs of agencies and organizations working in the community. The consultations included focus groups and surveys, and will shape the ESPC's Strategic Plan moving forward.
The report, Community Consultations on Research Needs: Final Report(October 2008), and Nonprofits and Policy Advocacy: Learning from Success (July 2009), are available for download. Stay tuned for further developments as the project moves forward.
