July 2010

This guide was created to provide information about library collections of use to social researchers.  Libraries and resource centres included in the Directory collect information about the individuals and groups that make up society, their welfare, and their interactions; provide public access to the collection, even if material does not circulate or hours and service are limited; and are located in Edmonton.


The Quality of Life Needs & Priorities of Edmontonians Facing Social & Economic Barriers

 The ESPC was contracted by the City of Edmonton to investigate the needs and priorities of Edmontonians facing barriers as part of The Way We Live: Edmonton's People Plan. This report will be used to inform the City's 10-year plan to improve the health, safety and well-being of Edmontonians.


We Must Do Better: It's Time to Make Alberta Poverty-Free
Nov 2009

This report, authored by Jim Gurnett (in partnership with the ESPC, Public Interest Alberta, and the Bissell Centre), is a follow up to the We Can Do Better report released in 2009.

We Must do Better overviews:

  • the results of 5 poverty forums held across the province in 2009;
  • recent statistics on poverty and unemployment in Alberta; and,
  • potential public policy and program options that would help to reduce or eliminate poverty.
